In Maryland once you are arrested for a crime you are often detained and brought before a Commissioner who is a judicial officer who determines the terms of your release. At this time pre-trial conditions and Bond decisions are made. You have a right at this time to hire an Attorney or use the Court Appointed Attorney. If a Bond has been established for your case and you cannot pay it you will then have to see a judge at Bail Review who will determine what if anything will be done with your Bond. The judge may raise it, lower it, or keep it the same. At Bail Review you will often times be provided with a Public Defender, but you can also at any point hire an Attorney to represent you. If you have any questions about this process, call us today at 202-558-6539 so we can work on your case.
